Our Philosophy
Rantoul is a crossroads community, filled with a spectrum of personalities, histories, and beliefs. We are a microcosm of the United States.
Art has a kind of magic—it can connect and heal. Creativity is a way to communicate.
The Rantoul Makers Market brings makers together in the shared circle of creativity, allowing all people to see a light in each other. It is a way to grow through shared experience.
This isn’t just about making money through our craft. It’s an opportunity to open lines of communication between disparate groups of people who too often see the ‘other’ rather than their neighbor. When we create together, sell together, and support each other’s work, we build understanding across our differences.
What This Means in Practice
We Welcome All Makers
- All local makers (within 30 miles of Rantoul) are welcome
- We don’t exclude based on background, beliefs, or identity
- Diversity of perspective makes our community stronger
- Everyone deserves a chance to participate and contribute
We Have Clear Boundaries:
Makers Aren’t Mean
- Zero tolerance for hate speech, harassment, or disrespect
- We expect kindness and respect for all vendors and customers
- Anyone who displays hateful or discriminatory behavior will be immediately removed
We Build Bridges Through Art
- Creativity is our common language
- When we see each other’s craft, we see each other’s humanity
- Shared work creates understanding
- Differences help us learn about ourselves and challenge our prejudices
Our Promise
We will never allow hatred, discrimination, or meanness.
We will also never exclude people based on assumptions about who they are.
We believe that bringing people together through creativity—even people who might disagree on other things—is how we build real community. Art connects us. Making together heals division. Seeing each other’s light helps us grow.
